RHA Cuts the Ribbon on New Affordable Housing Complex

The Reno Housing Authority (RHA) is proud to announce the grand opening of Dick Scott Manor, providing 12 brand new units of permanent supportive housing for low-income, extremely-low income and/or homeless military veterans. This is the first affordable housing complex opening in Nevada using money awarded to the organization through the State of Nevada Home Means Nevada Initiative and State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds provided by the city of Reno. This project is also funded in part by The Home Depot Foundation, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and RHA. The land for this project was also generously donated by the city of Reno.

RHA will provide rental subsidies to residents through project-based Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers with case management provided by the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System. Other supportive services will also be provided by RHA.

Through projects like this, RHA continues to shape the future of affordable housing in Washoe County.

“These units will provide safe, secure housing for years to come to those who have honorably served our country,” says RHA Executive Director Dr. Hilary Lopez. “It’s just one more way RHA works with community partners to advance affordable housing in the region.”

Thanks to the many donations from numerous community partners, RHA is able to offer fully furnished units to the complex’s initial residents.

This project is named in honor of Dick Scott, a community leader who served on RHA’s board for many years and was devoted to providing safe, secure affordable housing to Nevadans. He died in late 2021. In his last letter to the RHA Board of Commissioners, Scott wrote, “I loved my work here. I loved the people. I loved our residents. It was an honor to serve as chair of this agency. It is wonderful to see the ongoing work, led by this Board, continue to make gains for those who are less fortunate.”

Aside from serving on RHA’s board, Scott was elected as a Washoe County Commissioner and a Reno City Councilman, serving on the Washoe County Commission of the Arts board and chair of Reno-Sparks Convention and Tourism Authority, among others. Dick was consistently dedicated to finding new ways to give back to our community, and supporting RHA’s mission of providing affordable housing to those in need.
